I Have an Idea

water

The other day I was writing some ideas in my journal and I wrote that it would be great to have an artist sanctuary in Santa Barbara. A place where people of all backgrounds are free to create, inspire and be inspired. Then I went walking this evening to take pictures at Stearn’s Wharf. There is a place in the sand as you walk onto the wharf where a homeless artist had made some art and sand sculptures. I had the thought what if the center could be a place where homeless artists can also come and develop their artistic talents. Then there could also be a gallery space for them to sell their work and help them to become empowered and independent.

Old Mission Santa Barbara

Today I spent some time taking photos at our Mission in Santa Barbara. Across from the Mission is a rose garden. I am such a lover of beautiful flowers. I really enjoy spending time in this area. I always get so inspired by sightseeing when I travel and sometimes it is fun playing tourist in your own town. I happen to live in a place where there are lots of nice things to see including nature and architecture. I think I am going to start taking more regular “field trips” around town for inspiration. I am going to start working on some smaller oil paintings and  l want to feature some of the places I enjoy in Santa Barbara. I think I might even try attempting some plein air paintings. I love the fountain in front of the mission. There were some beautiful white water lilies in the fountain and cute orange fish. For some reason I absolutely love taking pictures of flowers, reflecting ponds and fish! I dream to have a beautiful garden on my own with these things someday.

Four Days in Mammoth

This past weekend I was lucky enough to spend a long weekend snowboarding with my friends in Mammoth. We drove up from Santa Barbara very late on Thursday night. We didn’t get into Mammoth until about 3:30am on Friday morning. Friday we did not make it up too early to the mountain, but we did get out and go for some runs. However, at around 2:30pm most of the mountain was closed due to weather. The storm came through and it was snowing at our condo in Mammoth Lakes Saturday morning. However when we got on the mountain the snow had stopped. We still had a fun day on the mountain and met up with Woolley after his parade 🙂

What Remains of the Day

Sunday was another one of those picture perfect Santa Barbara days. After riding my bike through Hope Ranch and along the coast to Montecito I decided to finish off the day with a walk on the beach at sunset. I grabbed my camera and headed out to Hendry’s beach. The clouds were silvery blue when I arrived. I watched the sunset as it progressed through it’s phases and the crescent moon peeked out from white and then bright pink clouds. After the sun passed below the horizon the sky became fire red and bright orange. It was magnificent to see and I am always truly grateful to witness the beauty of nature.
