My Winter Trip to Washington and Idaho

My Winter Trip to Washington and Idaho

[fusion_text]Over the holidays I took a trip with my boyfriend to visit his mom in Liberty Lake in Eastern Washington and we also got to spend a few days snowboarding at Silver Mountain in Kellogg, Idaho. I had taken a trip to Seattle a few years ago, but this was my first trip to Liberty Lake which is a small town just outside of Spokane. I was very excited about the idea of having a white Christmas since snow was in the forecast during our trip! After spending some time in Liberty Lake finishing up holiday shopping, building Sim Cities and enjoying delicious egg nog with whisky #noglife!! We drove out to Silver Mountain on Christmas Eve. Silver Mountain is about an hour East of Liberty Lake. As we crossed into Idaho I was very excited to see snow on the ground and as we continued to drive up to the ski resort the snow started falling!

We brought our snowboards on the trip with us and we got a day pass at Silver Mountain. The lift tickets ended up only being $42 since only part of the mountain was open. To get up to the mountain we took a very long gondola ride. In fact, the gondola at Silver Mountain is the longest gondola ride in North America at 3.1 miles! We finally got up to the mountain and spend the day going up the main chairlift that was open. It continued to snow throughout the day so we got some fresh powder and spent most of the day riding through the trees. After our day in the snow we checked into the resort and hit the hot tub!

The next day was Christmas and we had intended to go snowboarding.  I got my Christmas gifts from my boyfriend a new Roxy snowboard and Flow bindings!! He had given me the bindings the night before and when I got the board I was completely shocked and I started crying. I have been using hand me down snowboards from my friends for years so I was so happy to have my own new board! We had intended to go snowboarding, but it was getting late to go up to the mountain so instead we went to Silver Mountain Resort’s indoor water park! The water park was pretty small, but it has three inclosed tube slides and a lazy river and a few other attractions. I am actually terrified of dark enclosed water slides. I went on the slides a few times screaming all the way down.

The day after Christmas we went snowboarding again and they had opened the other side of the mountain so we were able to explore more of the terrain. I was really excited to try out my new snowboard a Roxy Eminence C2BTX and my new Flow bindings. After riding hand me down boards I loved the feel of my new board and as I am becoming a more advanced rider I think I will really be able to progress with this board. The new board was really fun and it was absolutely gorgeous on the mountain with all the snow covered trees. We spent the whole day riding around the mountain. It was really fun, but the base wasn’t super thick in some areas so I was trying to avoid the  twigs coming through the snow. I didn’t want to scrape up my new snowboard!

We headed back to Washington that evening and the next day it snowed in Liberty Lake. I was so excited because I was just dying to build a snowman! My boyfriend helped me roll balls to put our snowman together on his mom’s front yard. Then we headed to the hill behind her house to go sledding. It was so much fun sledding and I gathered some branches for my snowman’s arms and some golfballs from the nearby driving range for his buttons. After sledding for awhile we put the finishing touches on our snowman. A carrot nose and some rocks for his eyes and mouth. We didn’t have a top hat, but we made him some hair with leaves. He turned out so cute! Tragically in the night my snowman was murdered his head dismembered from his body. I was very sad, but my boyfriend’s mom’s fiancee was nice enough to rebuild him.

I really enjoyed my winter vacation and it was so nice spending the holidays with my boyfriend and his family. I am so grateful that I got to have the white Christmas that I was dreaming of. Being back in Santa Barbara we are definitely having some nog withdrawals! I hope everyone had a very happy holiday and I hope that 2015 will be an amazing year for everyone!!
